'X Men:Apocalypse' Cast Rumors; Patrick Stewart And Ian McKellen Won't Be Returning

Jan 18, 2015 08:44 PM EST | By Fred Yelland

Bryan's Singer's "X Men: Apocalypse" have been reported eyeing new talent to star as younger versions of three characters: Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm.

Rumored in the running to play Scott Summers aka Cyclops are actors Taron Egerton from the upcoming Matthew Vaugn directed Kingsman, Interstellar's Timothee Chamlet, Tye Sheridan from Mud and Charlie Rowe from the now cancelled TV series Red Band Society.

Contenders in playing the young Jean Grey are Saoirse Ronan of Hanna and The Host fame, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit and Elle Fanning from last year's Malificent. Chloe Grace Moretz was reportedly inlcuded in the list but turned the offer down due to scheduling conflicts. Actresses Zendaya Coleman and Alexandra Shipp have been reported both in the running to play Storm.

While some will be joining the cast in the upcoming "Apocalypse," it has been reported by Screen Rant that two of the "X Men's" actors won't be returning to their roles.

Patrick Stewart recently confirmed on Larry King Live that neither he "Nor Sir Ian McKellen," will be returning to their respective characters:

"I was learning quite a lot more about it last night, and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters. And so I don't think we'll be making an appearance."

Not much as a surprise as both McKellen and Stewart's younger incarnations have already kicked-off the Apocalypse's arc in X Men: First Class. But there's still hope for them to come back with Fox's announced-untitled film set for release in 2018; rumored to be X Men vs Fantastic Four.

Here's Fox's official schedule of releases: Fantastic Four opens on August 7, 2015, Deadpool, on February 12, 2016, X Men: Apocalypse on May 27, 2016, Gambit on October 7, 2016, Wolverine 3 on March 3, 2017, Fantastic Four 2 on June 2, 2017 and the untitled X Men movie on July 13, 2018.
