'Ghostbusters' Reboot Won't Be A Remake Of The Original Film Says Director Paul Feig; Cast Rumors Include Jennifer Lawrence!

News of an all-female "Ghostbusters" has been all buzz since it was announced last year by the upcoming reboot's director, Paul Feig. Since then, fuel was only added to the flame when Sony's email hacking incident revealed that casting for the film had already begun.

Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Lizzy Caplan, Jennifer Lawrence - these are the names rumored over the past few months to complete the cast.

Feig gave his two-cents explained his vision of an all female cast in an exclusive with Empire:

"A lot of people accused it of being a gimmick. I guess I can see the cynics' view of it, but for me I just love working with funny women. People said, 'Why don't you do a mix?' I'm just more interested in the idea of lady Ghostbusters. It's the way my brain work," he said. "It won't be called Lady Ghostbusters! Certainly not...Ghostbustieres is the way to go."

He also made clear that the upcoming film won't be a remake of the original film.

"We're not recreating the old movie but we want to do just enough fun nods that the fans will go, 'Oh, okay, they're acknowledging that the other movie existed.' I like to watch parodies, but I don't want to do them because they're too referential. Comedy that's too referential has such a short shelf life, whereas comedy that's based around characters will be relatable 2000 years from now because people won't change that much."

The director also claims that his film will be able to sit among the prevoius installments without stepping on any of them.

"A lot of people ask why I didn't create my own thing but "Ghostbusters" never ran out of steam, it's such a great idea. It's such a fun franchise so why not bring it to a new generation? The old movie is never going to not exist. It's not my plan to erase every copy! Hopefully they can all live together."
