Tom Delonge Clears Things Up Regarding Break Up With Fellow Blink 182 Members; Publishes Letter Saying 'Never Planned On Quitting'

Jan 28, 2015 11:19 PM EST | By Fred Yelland

Since yesterday, Blink 182 members Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker has been exchanging blows online with estranged guitarist and frontman Tom Delonge.

First, press release from Hoppus and Barker revealed that their guitarist was out of the band, and that he will be replaced by Alkaline Trio singer Matt Skiba for an upcoming show.

Delonge immediately fired back on his Instagram claiming that he hasn't left the band, and calls the press release "weird."

The drummer & bassist went further to explain their conflicted relationship in a revealing interview with Rolling Stone, calling Tom "ungrateful."

Shortly after the interview was published, Delonge once again defended himself; this time through a tweet saying: "A year ago Mark and I spent a week on the phone with managers debating parting ways with Travis... Don't pretend there isn't more to this story."

The tweet has since been deleted.

Consequence of Sound has published the 30 year-old guitarist's version of a tell-all in an open letter regarding the issue.

He tells the story differently, revealing that Hoppus and Barker demanded that he put his other project Angels & Airwaves on hold, when he communicated that he'd still participate in Blink 182 as long as he was happy and it didn't interfere with his endeavors outside of it.

"You can imagine my frustration when I was handed a 60-page Blink contract saying I couldn't release an Angels album for 9 months and that the Blink album had to be recorded in 6 months, which was impossible for me. Doing so would force me to breach several artist contracts."

He concluded the letter saying, "Sad for us. Sad for you- that you're witnessing this immaturity. I know them very well, and their current actions are defensive and divisive... And even as I watch them act so different to what I know of them to be, I still care deeply for them. Like brothers, and like old friends. But our relationship got poisoned yesterday. Never planned on quitting, just find it hard as hell to commit."
