'The Pizzabon': Cinnabon Giving Free Pizzabon's On Saturday [DETAILS]

Aug 14, 2012 07:35 PM EDT

Baked goods franchise Cinnabon is famous for its fragrant and flavorful cinnamon buns, but now it's rolling out new menu items like cupcakes, breakfast sandwiches, and a cheese galore creation called "The Pizzabon."

In one its stores in Atlanta's Cumberland Mall, customers can get their hands on a pizza-meets-cinnamon-bun creation, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Pizzabon looks exactly the way it sounds: a savory version of the famous, sizeable Cinnabon circle with melted cheese, pepperoni, and tomato sauce on top.

As an incentive for customers in Atlanta to try out the new creation, Cinnabon will be dishing out free Pizzabons this Saturday from 11 AM to 2 PM. Other items being tested at the Cumberland Mall branch include new pastries and sandwiches. It's described as being similar to a traditional Bagel Bite, except it's the size of a cinnamon roll.

Georgia Restaurant Association executive director Karen Bremer told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "you've got to innovate to satisfy the demands of old customers and to create some new ones."

The move is an effort by the company - owned by Atlanta-based Focus Brands - to keep up with changing consumer demands and an audience that is more diverse than when the company was founded 27 years ago, Cole said.

"In this day and age, it is incredibly important" to diversify, said Karen Bremer, executive director of the Georgia Restaurant Association. "If consumers are making the trip to your establishment, you want them to find everything they want in one place.

"You've got to innovate to satisy the demands of old customers and to create some new ones," she said.

Franchisees can also visit the cafe to determine what type of store they would like and how extensive they can make their menu, Cole said.
