'Robocop' Actor Joel Kinnaman Replaces Tom Hardy As Rick Flagg In 'Suicide Squad' Movie; More Cast Rumors Inside

Following DC's much anticipated "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" in 2016 will be a film that will feature an an all-star villain cast playing the lead roles: "Suicide Squad."

Last year, the cast playing the baddies on the big screen was announced. Tom Hardy playing Rick Flagg, Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto as The Joker, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Cara Delevigne as The Enchantress. Viola Davis of "How To Get Away With Murder" fame was teased joining the cast, playing agent Amanda Waller, a covert agent who recruits the members of the team.

"Suicide Squad's" path to production came across a rough patch when Tom Hardy, the actor who was set to play the team's leader in the upcoming villain-centric movie, reportedly left the project due to his dissatisfaction with the script and his parts in the movie being reduced.

Following Hardy's departure, Jake Gylenhaal was reported as the top contender in taking "The Dark Knight" actor's spot. Not surprising, as Gylenhaal has previously worked with "Suicide Squad's" director David Ayer in 2011's "Snowtown."

The actor turned down the offer shortly after, leaving the role still without an actor to play it. Joel Edgerton and "Walking Dead's" Joel Bernthal, who starred in the Ayer directed "Fury," were also rumored for the role.

According to Screen Rant, the role has already been nabbed by 2014's "Robocop" reboot actor Joel Kinnaman. While some thought that the remake wasn't much of a hit, Kinnaman was instrumental in making AMC's "The Killing" a massive success.

Two more roles are still without their actors: one of Batman's greatest enemies Deadshot and Rick Flagg's father, Richard Flagg are yet without actors. "Sabotage's" Joe Manganiello is currently the rumored actor in playing the sharpshooting villain.

The film is set to release in theaters on Aug. 5, 2016.
