What a Christmas for "Sherlock" fans!
BBC has announced that indeed "Sherlock" season 4 will arrive this year! Although a specific release date has yet to be revealed, the Christmas special kick-off hints a Q4 premiere! Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman hard at work!
It has taken a bit of time for "Sherlock" season 4, since both stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been really busy with their schedule. Hartswood Films' Executive Producer Sue Vertue shared with BBC, "It's taken a little while to get the dates sorted as none of the boys are exactly sitting back twiddling their thumbs but there was unanimous goodwill to make this work, so we're thrilled that 221b is going to be inhabited again."
Photos of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, who play Sherlock and Dr. Watson, respectively, have surfaced online early this year. A huge sign for "Sherlock" fans that indeed there is a possibility of seeing season 4 arrive soon. But more good news has been revealed!
According to BBC, although "Sherlock" season 4 will still arrive by 2016, there will be a full-length Christmas special this coming holiday season. This will kick-off "Sherlock" season 4, especially since fans will only have to wait a few days before 2016 --- assuming that "Sherlock" season 4 release date will be set by January. Otherwise, a months' wait isn't such a bad idea.
Executive producer Steven Moffat said "A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run!"
In the same report by BBC, he continued, "Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect..."
Mark Gatiss chimed in and said, "Series Four! At last ! It's always special to return to Sherlock but this time it's even more special as we're doing... a Special! Not only that, we'll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team is terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on - again!"
