‘Avatar 2’ Movie Plot Will Be ‘More Emotional’ Says Zoe Saldana; James Cameron Explains The Reason For Delayed Release Date

Fans have been clamoring to hear more news about James Cameron's highly anticipated "Avatar 2" movie.

Five years following the phenomenal hit sci-fi film, the team is reportedly getting ready to start filming as Cameron has shown returning cast member Zoe Saldana a glimpse of the sequel's plot.

"It was wonderful," Saldana exclaimed in an interview with MTV as reported by Crossmap. "Jim took us and gave us a tour of all the reference pictures, telling us the stories. I haven't been able to read the scripts. They're still working on them."

Adding, "We kind of get choked up. Cameron gets emotional telling us about the story. I get emotional hearing about it, so I'm looking forward to it."

In 2013, the award-winning director cited that the upcoming "Avatar 2" movie plot would delve deeper into the family of Sam Worthington's Jake Sully.

"It was very Jake-centric," Cameron said referring to the original film. "His story seen through his eyes. We spread it around quite a bit more as we go forward."

He then compared Jake Sully's family to that of the classic film "The Godfather."

"It's really the story of his family, the family that he creates on Pandora, his extended family. So think of it as a family saga like 'The Godfather.'"

Cameron once mentioned that the sequel would also explore various plot settings in Pandora.

"We're making up an ocean ecosystem for Pandora," he said to Coming Soon. "That's gonna have less to do with the deep exploration that I've done than it has to do with my concerns about conservation of Earth's oceans."

While everything looked ready for the film to move forward, James Cameron announced that due to the "complexity" of making three films at once, "Avatar 2" movie release date must be delayed.

"There's a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don't get when you're making a standalone film," Cameron announced at New Zealand Screen Advisory Board Meeting.

Naturally, fans speculated that the delay would gravely affect the third and fourth film. But that's not the case according to Crossmap, citing Cameron's previous interview.

"We expect to be able to accelerate the process quite a bit, because we've improved a lot of the software and the computer graphics tools, and we've been working very closely with Weta Digital down here in New Zealand developing a whole new suite of tools to speed up the process," the director explained of the sequels' process.

Adding, "We're writing three simultaneously. And we've done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. Were' not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that and parallel with that, we're doing all the design. So we've designed all the creatures and the environments."

"Avatar 2" movie is now scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 25, 2017.
