Savannah Guthrie Temporarily Anchors ‘NBC Nightly News’ While Lester Holt Deals With Family Issue

Lester Holt has been filling in for Brian Williams who was suspended last month until June, but due to a family health emergency the 43-year-old anchor Savannah Guthrie temporarily takes his spot on NBC's "Nightly News."

But her first appearance on the television show didn't seem to "wow" the viewers.

"Guthrie didn't do awful," Dan Gainor, vice president of business and culture at the Media Research Center, told FOX411. "But her delivery was just kind of flat. She mostly seemed to be focused on reading the material and didn't seem comfortable. Perhaps she'll do better over time,"

"But remember, the 'Today' show lost 600,000 viewers after she replaced the more popular Ann Curry."

In addition, Hoda Kotb will fill in for Guthrie on "Today" with Matt Lauer as producers find ways to boost the show's ratings that are trailing ABC's "Good Morning America," the Daily Mail reports

Holt who's been an NBC News anchor since 2000 was reportedly raking in tv ratings on NBC's "News Nightly." He was considered as the frontlinner to replace Brian Williams if he'll be permanently axed from the show. Williams has been suspended after admitting that he fabricated details about his reporting about the Iraqi invasion in 2003.

Since Lester Holt's second week on "News Nightly," NBC's news ratings reached an  average 10.1 million viewers in the second week of February, roughly 600,000 more than the week before, the Nielsen company said. (via Daily Mail)

Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie's temporary stint on "News Nightly" sparked rumors that she'll eventually take the job. But according to the Daily Mail Guthrie, who was a former legal analyst of NBC, she cannot accept the job if ever it was offered, because she signed a three year contract with "Today."

"Someone should take the Williams spot, but Holt has demonstrated more of the classic anchor skills and charisma that the job calls for," Gainor explained to FOX 411. "Guthrie is getting her chance, but she didn't wow anyone tonight."
