Jennifer Hudson made her debut as part of the “Empire” TV series cast in a recurring role. Aside from her, Courtney Love and Mary J. Blige also graced the Fox musical drama. In its second season, probably this fall, the show's line up of artists will grow by ten folds as it targets the queen of media herself, Oprah.
Talking to Access Hollywood, series co-creator Lee Daniels confirmed the TV hosts and businesswoman with whom he worked with in the film “The Butler” will join the “Empire” TV series cast when they return for second season.
"Yes. Yeah. She's gonna be on it," Daniels said in an interview with Access Hollywood.
Another top-billed artists that is more likely to join the “Empire” TV series cast is Common who just recently wowed the public with his performance at the Oscars Award together with John Legend.
"Oh yeah, for sure. For absolutely sure. We're gonna have a good time," Lee told Access speaking of Common. "You heard that first.
Regarding Oprah's casting, co-creator Danny Strong, is already finding what kind of character she might play. Strong also revealed that Oprah's selection is somewhat because of a request from Taraji Henson who plays the enigmatic Cookie Lyon, the estrange wife of Empire Enterprises CEO Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard).
"That's what she wants and Cookie gets what Cookie wants," Daniels said according to a report by E! Online. "She told me who to cast and I just go, ‘OK, yes, ma'am!'"
Oprah and Common are not the only big-time stars fans can expect in the second season “Empire” TV Series cast. Just last January, Danny Strong posted a photo him with Denzel Washington with the caption: “Trying to talk this one into doing a guest star on #empire #nextweekdinneronme.”
If ever, this will be Washington's first TV project in 30 years.
“Denzel hasn’t done television in 30 years. But he saw the pilot and said, ‘I’ve got to be a part of this.” said Daniels about his talk.
