'Empire' TV Series Cast Jussie Smollett Talks About Finale And Love Life Of Jamal

Mar 17, 2015 09:15 PM EDT | By Evelyn Hammond

Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smolett) has rapidly grown ever since the first episode.

One major reason behind this was his courage to come out about his real gender during the White Party. Jamal has basically outgrown other "Empire" TV series cast. The show will end its first season this week with a two-hour episode and according to Smollett himself, the final two episodes will be very powerful.

"[Laughs] Well, you need to call Miss Cleo and ask her - because I'm not telling you anything!" the "Empire" TV series cast told TV Line when asked for a scoop about the season ender. Although hesitant, Smollett followed it up by describing a scene between Jamal and his father Lucious portrayed by Terrence Howard.

TVLINE | Is Miss Cleo still working?

"No, I don't think so, poor baby. [Laughs] What I will say is this: There is a moment where you see Lucious and Jamal through song in a way that you've never seen. And it's one of the most powerful - and one of my favorite - scenes that I've shot in the entire season."

As for his character's love life, the "Empire" TV series cast said it might not be that smooth.

In the show, Jamal already had two relationships, albeit short-lived. First is Michael Sanchez (Rafael de La Fuente) who broke up with him when Jamal said in an interview that he was not seeing anyone although they are living in the same house.

That is the time when he hasn't come out. Second is Ryan Morgan (Eka Darville), the documentary filmmaker working for the Empire Enterprises. Although he is unlucky with boyfriends, Smollett said Jamal's love life won't take a backseat. He added Jamal and Ryan may not be done yet.

"I don't think Jamal's love life always has to take a backseat, but it takes a really particular [person] to be with an artist who is having that type of lifestyle, and to be loyal when they're away , to keep their mind open and be understand - and vice-versa," the "Empire" TV series cast said.

"You'll have to wait and see. Because you know what? Jamal isn't lucky in love, and neither am I. Join the club, Jamal! Welcome to the Lonely Hearts Club. [Laughs] And no, Jamal's not done with Ryan."

Aside from Smollett and Howard, also part of the main "Empire" TV series cast are Taraji P. Henson, Trai Byers, and Bryshere Gray.
