Xiaomi Mi4 To Run On Windows 10; Could This Be A Sign That The Chinese Tech Firm Might Take The Lead In Mobile Market?

Recently Xiaomi was hailed as the world's third phone manufacturer, trailing behind Samsung and Apple, and the largest smartphone vendor in China, according to an IDC report.

Xiaomi's success stems in Google's Android OS, but it seems like that the company wanted to diversify its market as Microsoft has announced through a blog post its partnership with the Chinese tech firm along with Lenovo, Tencent and Qihu 360.

The Microsoft Windows 10 preview ROM pack will be made available for select Xiaomi Mi4 users in China. The latest Windows 10 is said to offer "customizations for the China market, such as Cortana in Mandarin" and will be available in summer in 190 countries and 111 languages.

It was confirmed on the blog post that WP users running in Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 may upgrade after its official release.

"Through a new program with Xiaomi, one of the top smartphone distributors in the world, a select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users will be invited to help test Windows 10 and contribute to its future release later this year," Terry Myerson, Microsoft's executive vice president for operating systems, said in the post.

"These power users will have the opportunity to download the Windows 10 Technical Preview - installing it and providing their feedback to Microsoft."

It was also added on Microsoft's announcement that Windows 10 will introduce "Windows Hello," which provides instant access to user's mobile devices through biometric authentication that may include face, iris or fingerprint authentication.

On the other hand, Xiaomi confirmed Microsoft's announcement on its official statement, The Next Web reports.

"This is an experimental program entirely led by Microsoft, and we are happy that Mi fans with Mi 4 devices in China will be able to participate and provide feedback," said Xiaomi.
