"The Last of Us" movie is finally happening and while there hasn't been any official cast yet, "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams is reportedly in talks to play the role of Ellie.
The 17-year-old English actress, who has been successfully playing the role of young Arya Stark in HBO's hit series, has confirmed that she had been in a meeting with the game creator Neil Druckmann along with its movie executives.
"I had a lunch a little while ago and we spoke about the possibility of me playing Ellie and that's really exciting and I would absolutely love to," Williams confirmed in a report by Screen Rant. "They announced at Comic-Con that we had spoken about it, and since then in like every interview people have been asking me about it."
"Honestly I would love to and I think they would love me to play Ellie also, and that's where it is at the moment. There's no script, no director, it's still very early days for the whole project, but if it all goes ahead soon enough I think, yeah, I would love to."
Maisie Williams is reportedly thankful to the power of social media as she revealed that Neil Druckmann would have not considered her to play the role of Ellie in the movie adaptation of "The Last of Us" if it weren't for Twitter.
"It kind of all came about on Twitter a long time ago," she said, explaining how the meeting came to life. "The power of Twitter still never ceases to amaze me."
Druckmann on the other hand, managed to keep his mouth shut about the casting news, but he did promise fans that "The Last of Us" movie would feature "big changes" from that of the game.
"I just finished a second draft, and we did a table read with a bunch of actors," he said. "Pretty faithful to the game. There are some big changes, but the tone and what the story's trying to say is pretty faithful to the game."
