Upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 Release Date Imminent; Apple Of China Partners With AOKP For The MIUI 7

Xiaomi has been reportedly partnered with Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) team for its upcoming MIUI 7 custom user interface based on Android 5.1 Lollipop, which will debut on the Xiaomi Mi5.

The tie up was also recently confirmed by the AOKP on its blog, NDTV reported.

"With all the pieces of the deal in place, I wish to announce that all Team Kang members are working with Xiaomi on a new and refreshed MIUI 7, which will be finally based on Android 5.1, and be coming on the Mi 5,'' AOKP said on its  blog post.

The blogpost went on that new MIUI 7 will bring a different take on the Android UI and "will evolve with the user and after a few months' time spent with the ROM each user get a different and personalised version in accordance with the user's needs," India Today added.

"MIUI 7, (which the team internally calls codename MiKangy, not to be confused with MiKandi), is a whole new take on the Android UX. The idea behind it is to kang all important features from the top ROMs like CM, PA, Omni and AOKP and create an experience which completely submerges the user in his own world. The UI will evolve with the user, and thus a few months after usage, the UI of each Mi 5 phone will be different - personalised to the traits of it's individual user," Team Kang explained.

It was also noted on the blogpost that this partnership with Xiaomi will not affect any future of AOKP, clarifying acquisition rumors- if there's any, NDTV added.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi celebrates its fifth year and speculations arise that the Apple of China might unveil the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 any time soon. Thus, another indication of the Mi5's looming release date is the price drop of the Xiaomi Mi4 in China.

The 2014 flasghip is now retailed in Chiina for CNY 1,799, while the Xiaomi Mi 4 with 2GB of RAM instead of 3GB, will retail at CNY 1,699. This price reduction is said to take effect in China starting April 8.
