Theo James' return in the upcoming "Underworld 5" movie has been making headlines since last year.

James' portrayal of David in "Underworld: Awakening" in 2012 earned him praises from the critics and fans alike. Thus talks of his return immediately sparked.

According to The Hollywood Reporter  James' character is seriously considered to return in "Underworld 5" movie titled "Next Generation."

"Sources say there was an option on James because of his work on the previous film, and he'll star opposite two new female characters," THR claimed.

However, the "Insurgent" actor finally clarified rumors in an interview with Digital Spy.

"No, they have something in the works, but my involvement in it is... I think it's going be very difficult to do that with these ['Divergent'] movies, and my other commitments," James hinted his departure from the zombie-themed survival movie franchise.

The 30-year-old English actor who played the role of Tobias Eaton in the last two "Divergent" movies is believed to still have to more "Allegiant" films to shoot later this year.

Kate Beckinsale, the female lead star, Selena, for the previous four "Underworld" films, on the other hand is said to return to reprise his role in "Underworld 5" movie.

Writer-producer of the franchise Len Wiseman hinted on an interview.

"There's a few things being developed right now and there's some characters that we really like," Wiseman told IGN

"There's kind of more of a spin-off of some of the characters like we did with Rise of the Lycans and then another film is also being developed in the works with Kate possibly as well, and then there's a television series as well.

"It's kind of expanding that universe in many ways," he continued.

"Underworld 5" movie is reportedly going to hit theaters sometime in 2016.
