'The Last Of Us 2' PS4 Release Date Will No Longer Happen? Neil Druckmann Has '50/50' Chance Of Bringing Back Ellie & Joel

Despite the huge success it's been reported that "The Last of Us 2" PS4 release date is no longer happening.

While a movie is in the works, Naughty Dog developer Neil Druckmann previously said that there is a "50/50" chance that a sequel to the highly successful gaming title would push through.

"We have such limited resources, and it's a question of where you put the resources," the director said in an interview. "It's something where we can have a feel of where the demand is, and where our time is best spent. It's something that we'll figure out as we move forward."

However, Druckmann has yet to close his doors in making "The Last of Us 2." He admitted that he'll reconsider if original voice actors Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, who effectively voiced Joel and Ellie from the video game, will come back to reprise their roles.

"I'd probably reconsider the story [if Troy and Ashley didn't return]. They are Joel and Ellie to me," he said in a Reddit AmA in February.

But if ever the post-apocalyptic survival game would pursue, it's most likely that fans would not see "The Last of Us 2" PS4 release date happening anytime soon, now that Naughty Dog is reportedly focused with "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" first.

Director Bruce Straley once told Game Spot that he is considering the idea of "The Last of Us 2" but it will still remain "on ice" since they are all preoccupied with "Uncharted" sequel.

"We're 110 percent in Uncharted 4 territory now," Straley said. "Blinders on, make this awesome."

"We totally get it, because we have those same feelings as well. We have brainstormed sequel ideas for 'The Last of Us,' and we've brainstormed ideas for new games, but all of that is put on ice right now while we work on 'Uncharted 4.'"

If "The Last of Us 2" PS4 would be considered by Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann, the sequel's release date would most likely be sometime in 2017.

And fans should not expect a sequel as well but the game would most likely be a reboot instead.

Druckmann previously said that "he won't want to compromise" the ending of Joel and Ellie with a sequel, thus the team would rather look for new ideas with the story and could feature never-before-seen characters.
