Xiaomi Sets A World Record, Sold Over 2.11 Million Phones In 12 Hours; The Rising Chinese Phone Manufacturer Gears Up For Its ‘Global Mi Phone Premiere’

Xiaomi has been the rising superstar among phone manufacturers in 2014. It climbed up on the third spot of the world's largest smartphone makers in 2014 trailing behind Apple and Samsung which are on the second and first spot respectively.

Lately, there had been too much hype on Samsung since its launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. However, Xiaomi stole the spotlight on the Korean tech giant as it was recently awarded a Guinness world record.

According to Ars Technica, an official from Guinness awarded Xiaomi with the "Most mobile phones sold on a single online platform within 24 hours.'' The company was reportedly sold over 2.11 million smartphones in just 12 hours.

The 12-hour online sale was held on Wednesday , dubbed as the 'Mi Fan Festival', with a total of $2.08 billion yuan ($335 million) in sales revenue. Most of the smartphones sold at the flash sale were "out-of-stock" devices, CNBC reported.

As Xiaomi celebrated its fifth year, the company continues its plan to expand in emerging markets. Today, it was announced that Xiaomi will hold its 'Mi Global Premiere' in India on April 23,
NDTV reported.

"i IS COMING. Register for our global Mi phone premiere in New Delhi on 23 April,'' Xiaomi made the announcenement via Twitter.

Xiaomi India also revealed that CEO & Founder Lei Jun, President & Co-Founder Bin Lin, and VP Xiaomi Global Hugo Barra will attend the event, while it's still a mystery which products are about to be launched.

NDTV assumed Xiaomi might finally bring Mi Note and the Mi Note Pro in India, along with the Mi Box Mini, Mi Box, Mi TV, and Mi TV 2.

 The Xiaomi Mi Note in China was priced at CNY 2,299 for the 16GB model, while the 64GB model at CNY 2,799. The Xiaomi Mi Note Pro has a price tag of CNY 3299 for its 64GB variant. However, prices may still vary when it lands the Indian market.
