Following the release of the 2012 record "Koi No Yokan," Deftones announced that its making a new album, which is expected to hit shelves sometime in the last quarter of the year.

The new tracks will introduce a new sound from the American alternative band as revealed by vocalist Chino Moreno in his interview with Rolling Stone

"It's definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are," Moreno explained. "We're not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box."

While they will still offer the same rock feel they've been offering for years, Moreno promised fans that the band members are challenging themselves into bringing something new to deliver.

"I feel like we've gone into the songs and really dissected them," he explained of the new Deftones album. "If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven't done in the past."

In a separate interview with Rolling Stone, Chino Moreno shared details about their unreleased "Eros" album that remained untouched after the death of their bassist Chi Cheng following a tragic car accident in Santa Clara, Calif.

"I get asked about that record a lot," the vocalist admitted. "For a while, I was giving the same answer, 'No, no, no, no, no, no, no.' After Chi's passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience, to say the least."

And while he previously dismissed any thoughts of releasing the "Eros" record, he now believes that fans should get to hear their previous work either by releasing it entirely as an LP or it could also be included in the Deftones new album.

"I think it should be released, but we don't have any definite plans," he explained. "There's some work to do on it. Deftones have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I don't know if we're ready for that."
