Part-Time Chipotle Employees To Receive Added Benefits Including Tuition Reimbursement

Jun 08, 2015 09:32 PM EDT | By Michael Smith

Part-time workers at Chipotle will receive added benefits that include tuition reimbursement for students.

Beginning July 1, all company employees will also be eligible to receive sick pay and paid vacation time.

"It's an incredible statement by our leadership about how much we want to invest in the best people we have and to keep them with us," Chipotle recruitment strategy manager JD Cummings said at a recent conference.

The benefits are being implemented in an effort to help employees build their respective careers and use their experience elsewhere. Chipotle officials are also attempting to focus on their efforts on making part-time jobs more appealing to their target demographic: high school and college students.

The company, which currently employs approximately 53,090 workers, is among many other top fast-casual chains looking to provide more benefits to employees as a result of successful protest movements.

Starbucks and McDonald's, for example, have previously announced partnerships with online college programs and plans to pay employees $1 over local minimum wages.

"You've got to promise them you're going to develop them," Chipotle recruit strategy manager J.D. Cummings said, according to CNN

"You've got to promise them a future that if they are dedicated and good and strong for the company, you are going to reward them."

Chipotle was founded in 1993.
