HBO TV series "Game of Thrones" is one of the hottest shows in the past four years. It's characters are all over the internet each week after an episode airs.

Definitely, Fox TV series "Empire" is not yet on its level but this hit musical drama returns, don't be surprised to see some shades of kingdom wars like what fans witness on the fantasy drama from author George RR Martin. When the "Empire" season 2 release date hits, it is also the start of war between members of Lyon family.

Co-creator Danny Strong said during the ATX Television Festival that there is a throne the main characters will covet in "Empire" season 2. As fans can recall, the first season ended with Lucius Lyon (Terrence Howard) getting dethroned from his position as CEO of Empire Entertainment by his own ex-wife Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and his sons. The only one left on his side is second kid Jamal (Jussie Smollett).

"Season one was who will inherit the throne, and season two is warring kingdoms. So you'll see the kingdom go to war for the throne," Strong said during the event.

"The thing we talk about in the writers' room all the time is 'Game of Throne. It goes back to the 'King Lear' of it all, so the idea of telling you this modern-day pop soap opera but also try to frame it in an epic, mythological kingdom-type framework is, to me, the most exciting part of the show. We're talking about kings and queens and princes and that sort of language. The continuation of those battles is what I dig the most."

"Empire" season 2 release date, set on September 23, was announced a few weeks ago. The said date is earlier than the usual one year break of other shows. "Empire" debut in January this year.

Before the good news about "Empire" season 2 release date, the show also confirmed new major additions as well as a longer season. The second season, which will have 18 episodes, will be joined by music elite like Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, and Lenny Kravitz. Also being courted for a guest role are Eminem, Denzel Washington, and Oprah.
