Chris Hemsworth Joins The ‘Ghostbusters 3’ Cast! Paul Feig Announced The ‘Thor’ Star Is The New Receptionist! Did The Aussie Actor Originally Turn Down The Role?

Fans were thrilled when they found out that Chris Hemsworth will be joining the "Ghostbusters 3" cast. The announcement was made by Paul Feig on Twitter last Wednesday.

The director posted a photo of the "Thor" star and wrote: "Our receptionist. #whoyougonnacall." Some of his followers find it hard to believe while others complimented him for great casting.

In the 1984 film, Annie Potts stars as the secretary of the Ghostbusters and her character's name is Janine Melnitz. Her love interest in the original "Ghostbusters" movie is Dr. Egon Spengler played by the late Harold Ramis. So Chris Hemsworth could be taking over Pott's role in the reboot, but who will be linked to him?

The Aussie actor will be joining Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon in "Ghostbusters 3" so any of these women could be his new love interest. The reboot will be produced by Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two "Ghostbusters" movies and is co-written by Katie Dippold.

According to Variety, Sony went to Chris Hemsworth early on in the process for one of the male lead roles, but he turned down the role because it was too small.

So the producers had to rework the script and give the 31-year-old actor a more significant role and that could be the receptionist as announced by Paul Feig.

The website reported that the cast and crew of "Ghostbusters 3" will start filming later this summer in time for its release on July 22, 2016. They will be filming in Boston but the setting will be in New York. This was explained by the director during an interview with IGN.

"We're just shooting mostly in Boston. The original Ghostbusters shot mostly in LA and then they went to New York and shot some exteriors, so that's basically what we'll be doing too," Paul Feig said. "It just comes down to money and our budget is so high that we need the tax incentive that Massachusetts provides."
