While talks of "G.I. Joe 3" reportedly in the works grow rampant, the name of Channing Tatum is also being linked to the supposed sequel.

Apparently Channing Tatum could still be resurrected to appear in the follow up of "G.I. Joe Retaliation" together with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

"You never know, Storm Shadow died in the first one and came back in the second one, and then other characters have died and never come back," Director Jon Chu, hinted Tatum's return in an interview with MTV. "The 'G.I. Joe' world, the best thing about it is you never know who's coming back and who's not."

However, it seems like that's impossible to happen following "Magic Mike XXL" star's statement about the franchise.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald, the 35-year-old Hollywood hunk did not really like to star in "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra," instead he was just forced to play the role of Duke since it was stipulated in his contract with Paramount Pictures. was forced to star as Duke in "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra" since that was part of his contract with Paramount Pictures. He revealed this during his guest appearance at the Howard Stern radio show.

"Look, I'll be honest. I f***ing hate that movie," he admitted in "Howard Stern" radio show. "I didn't want to do something that was 1) bad and 2) I didn't know if I wanted to be G.I. Joe."

The role that was offered to him during the wake of Writers Guild of America strike between 2007 and 2008 grossed over $302 million worldwide despite his claims of the film not having a good script.

"The script wasn't any good," the actor added.

And while he did not like playing the role of Duke in "G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra," he admitted that playing the role helped him skyrocketed his career.

"I could have been given 'Scream 5' or something...I'm super lucky and blessed to have been given that film," he admitted.

And while he most likely won't appear in the talked about "G.I. Joe 3," there are reports that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson who starred as Roadblock in "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" is going to take over the franchise.

"The baton was passed and Roadblock became 'the man' when it comes to the G.I. Joe team," Cinema Blend claimed. "Which was contrary to the canon of the classic 1980's A Real American Hero cartoons and comic books.

It added, "Thus, the G.I. Joe film franchise, for all intents and purposes, is now a Dwayne Johnson franchise."

The rumors were actually confirmed by franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura in his previous interview with Screen Rant.

"The last movie was really the set up, in a way, for Roadblock to take over," di Bonaventura explained. "Dwayne came aboard a little late last time so we weren't able to do everything I think we can do this time, and really get a story that services what the audience expects out of him, and also as an actor pushes him into areas that you wouldn't normally explore in a big franchise movie perhaps."

In addition, the upcoming "G.I. Joe 3" movie, which will be led by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is reportedly having some plot twists.

"The hardest thing in film, I think, is to reduce something to something simple," he said. "You want it to be smart, you want it to have all this complexity, you want to do all these things which sometimes makes it all so confusing. (...) This time we have a very clear, very defined, tight idea that I wish I had on every sequel I've ever worked on. Simple's the hardest to get to."
