Will Superman Appear in CBS TV Series 'Supergirl?' Executive Producer Explains How It Can Happen

Copyrights restriction is something that makes it impossible for some iconic comic book characters to mingle with others in another show. Case in point is Superman.

CBS TV series "Supergirl" has been launched and one question fans have in mind the moment the network announced it is, will the Man of Steel make an appearance?

Supergirl is the cousin of Superman from Krypton planet. She was sent to earth to watch over Clark Kent. These two characters have deep connection and it is just automatic for fans to assume they will be connected one way or another.

So, is Superman going to appear in the "Supergirl" TV series? According to executive producer Ali Adler, he will, but not physically.

"Our prototype is the way the president is seen on Veep," executive producer Ali Adler told Entertainment Wekly during an interview. "It's certainly [inspired by] so much of what Julia-Louis Dreyfus' character goes through. Ultimately, this is a show about Supergirl and we really want to see it through her lens."

The HBO comedy drama "Veep" is about a fictional US vice president who cleverly make the POTUS appear through references. Based in the EPs statement, Superman will not appear physically in the show.

"Supergirl" TV series also includes characters tied to Clark Kent like Jimmy Olsen and a number of villains. Over the last decade, Superman has been portrayed by at least three actors. Brandon Routh and Henry Cavill in movies and Tom Welling in television.

Routh is currently portraying The Atom/Ray Palmer in "Arrow" and "Legends of Tomorrow" from CBS' sister studio CW so there is no way he will reprise his 2006 role. DC Comics also insists its rule on multi-verse so there is no chance it will mix its TV and movie actors and characters. As for Tom Welling, he made it known that he will never portray Clark Kent again after his CW show "Smallville" ended.

"Supergirl" TV series cast is headed by Melissa Benoist who plays the title role, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw.
