Another summer food idea to save up money is by packing picnics. US News tells you to look for a local park and sit on its grassy area and enjoy the meal with family and friends.

"It doesn't need to be anything complicated," personal financial website founder Trent Hamm says. "Just a few simple sandwiches, vegetables and a beverage or two carried in a backpack works."

Hamm also advises on buying fresh produce as another summer food idea for you to save up. He says that the best time to pick up fresh produce that are not expensive is during the summer season.

He buckles that these fresh produce can be a challenge and the hint is to explore on different recipes such as giant salad, turnips and beets.

If you are thinking of travelling this summer, it is best to pack snacks and meals before getting aboard. The report suggests filling up the beverage cooler with the food and drinks you need. This will help you avoid the costs of stopping at a convenience store or at a restaurant just to have a satisfied stomach.

Finally, one of the best summer food ideas is to prepare sweet and cold treats that are perfect for the season.

Hamm suggests freezing strawberries, banana slices and berries in the morning and making your snack in the evening. Homemade ice cream is also a must, as well as turning summer fruits into a pulpy juice.
