Meet Miss Hawaii USA Emma Wo: From Being Shy, The ‘Aloha Babe’ Now Shines!

Aug 19, 2015 12:59 PM EDT | By Jon Lindley Agustin

Miss Hawaii USA 2015 walked down the pageant runway about a month ago, wearing a sparkling Sherri Hill gown. She made it to the Top 15 semi-finalists and even made it as far as the evening gown competition. She failed to enter the Top 5 finalists.

But who cares, this 25-year-old pageant girl Emma Wo is turning her fashion blog into a small business making money, and is also making waves as a PR executive at Bennet Group of Public Relations, her Miss Hawaii USA profile says.

Two years ago, she launched her own personal fashion blog called "The Aloha Babe," which regularly posts her looks, her experiences and her day-to-day whereabouts. This blog, Midweek reports, started as her hobby and since transformed into a small business.

"I would be lying if I said I didn't feel a little bit of pressure to make something of myself and really find success, but I'm lucky that my parents have kept my options wide open," Miss Hawaii USA 2015 Emma Wo told Midweek. "So whatever it is I want to do, whether it's fashion or marketing or to be a full-time blogger, they support me."

Miss Hawaii USA Emma Wo came from a privileged family line, perhaps one reason why she was able to study philosophy and economics - among others - at Oxford University in England at the age of 16.

Midweek mentions that Emma is the daughter of a principal at CKW Financial Group and the vice-president of Foodland. Her family line comes from maternal grandparents who founded Foodland around 65 years ago. Not only this, her paternal great-grandfather is a founder of another big business.

Because of this, her access to education is just a stone's throw away. Midweek says she graduated with honors from Scipps College in California after getting a degree in media studies and minoring in English literature.

Miss Hawaii USA's international experiences are also highly regarded. Aside from studying in Oxford University, she interned in big companies such as PBS Hawaii, KITV news and the Sullivan Family of Companies, the report further mentions.

While in New York, she reportedly was able to snag an internship at Vogue magazine working in their editorial departments.

Who would have thought that this shy girl will make it big in the Miss USA pageant last July?

Her blog, "The Aloha Babe" is just filled with wonder as she writes her everyday experiences and features her fashion-forward looks, captured through high-definition camera lenses as seen on her photos.

Her recent post featured her in daring Faviana top and skirt, paired with a silver clutch bag she said her parents bought from Argentina.

"I was really shy, especially in high school, and around adults. I was always that kid hiding behind my mom," she shared via Midweek. "But pageants have opened me up and allowed me to put more of myself out there... it's about developing yourself, your self-confidence and growing into a strong young woman."
