After reportedly earning 6.6 million viewers when it premiered on Disney Channel, the "Descendants" original movie might be having a sequel.
Director Kenny Ortega might have just hinted the possibility of a Disney's "Descendants" sequel, according to media reports. Website Movie Pilot could not hide their excitement when it reportedly asked Ortega about plans of making a sequel of the recently concluded movie.
"Sure. I think - were you to ask the cast and crew - they'd agree that we'd all love to come back and play here again," Kenny Ortega reportedly said. "The Descendants world is a wonderful place to play in. More to the point, there are so many characters from the Disney animated films that we could draw upon, pull in. There are so many more stories to tell."
Not only was the director "open" to a sequel to Disney's "Descendants" movie, but the cast members as well. Movie Pilot further noted cast member Booboo Stewart, who played the role of Jay, supporting the idea of a second part.
"I feel like people are expecting it. They think this is just the first [of several] movies," he said in the report.
To push the hype even more, another cast member Cameron Boyce seemed to have revealed some information that "confirms" the Disney's "Descendants" sequel. In a Q and A via Twitter, Boyce answered a question on what his next role is going to be.
He replied, "My next movie Descendants 2..."
Millions of viewers
When the movie premiered on Disney Channel, it reportedly earned 6.6 million viewers, including 3 million kids younger than 12 years old.
In the report on Deadline, Disney's "Descendants" movie ranks first on the list of cable TV movies in terms of total number of viewers.
Movie Pilot further mentioned that the hanging story plot might say something about a sequel.
Disney's "Descendants" movie ended with Mal saying, "You didn't think this was the end of the story did you?"
Moreover, J-14 also reported a teaser recently released that plays on the possibility that the character of Evie might be up for something new.
