While it took some time before the movie adaptation of the "Assassin's Creed" game moved forward, it seems like there's no turning back now.

After four years in development, Ubisoft has confirmed that the movie will be availble in theaters next year.

Michael Fassbender, who is set to star and produce the film explained why the film experienced some delays in an interview with Game Spot.

"You say it's a long time, but what I've found - it's all new to me, but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time," Fassbender explained.

The 38-year-old German actor also revealed that "Assassin's Creed" movie shooting will finally start next month.

"It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It's exciting. It's going to start this year, we'll be filming in September."

And in a separate interview with Movie Pilot, "X-Men" star Michael Fassbender explained how hard it is for such a complicated game to be adapted in a big production movie.

"That's always the challenge of something that's so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things," the actor explained. "So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story."

Meanwhile, the movie was also plagued with controversies when Michael Fassbender's girlfriend, Alicia Vikander reportedly exited from the movie to appear in the "Bourne" franchise.

"Alicia Vikander has now been set to star in the next instalment of the Jason Bourne saga opposite Matt Damon, Deadline can confirmed. "She will not, however, be starring in Justin Kurzel's Assassins Creed pic opposite Michael Fassbender."

While Vikander's decision to leave "Assassin's Creed" has not been discussed, her exit reportedly caused some issues to the couple.

However, Fassbender is reportedly too excited with his project that he's willing to overlook this small issue.

"Assassin's Creed" movie release date is scheduled to hit theaters on Dec. 21, 2016.
