Iphone 6s Release Date: Apple’s September 9 Event Confirmed; Leaks Hint Specs You May Not Like

Aug 31, 2015 09:38 PM EDT | By Jason Fonbuena

Following earlier leaks suggesting Apple is gearing up for a September 9 event, the Cupertino tech giant itself has sent out invites for the said event, believed to be the venue for the iPhone 6s release date announcement.

Several media outlets reported they received the invites last week. Per Engadget, the event is to be held at 10:00 a.m. PT at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

"The event invite is light on details, as usual, but features the tease, 'Hey Siri, give us a hint.'"

Both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, along with the latest iPads and other Apple products, are expected to be unveiled in the said event.

The September 9 event was first hinted by BuzzFeed News and subsequently confirmed by a leak from a French carrier, as Franchise Herald previously reported.

Among specs and features rumored for the next-gen iOS flagship are 12MP cameras, Force Touch and a stronger aluminium frame. But in the days leading up to the expected iPhone 6s release date, leaks from reliable sources suggest specs that may be bad news for some, according to a Forbes report.

The website cited a report from China's cnBeta which reportedly uncovered that the 6s and 6s Plus will come with slightly smaller batteries - 1,715mAh and 2,750 batteries, respectively.

"Then again, whether these decreases equate to reduced usage times in real world use is open to debate," Forbes said.

MacRumors also said the iPhone 6s will be marginally thicker and heavier than its predecessor to accommodate Force Touch. But in an effort to keep it as light as possible, Apple has reportedly chosen to make the device's already fragile back thinner.

Lastly and contrary to previous reports that the newest iPhones will come with 32GB of base storage, 9to5Mac said this won't be the case. The 6s and 6s Plus will have the same storage options as the models they'll replace.

Although iOS 9 will have a smaller footprint, the problem according to Forbes is that the 12MP 1080p-capable cameras will fill up the 16GB model easily.

Apple's September 9 event is fast approaching. The iPhone 6s release date is expected to be confirmed by then.
