Will The Riddler And The Penguin Work Together In 'Gotham' Season 2? Smith And Taylor Release Spoiler

Sep 10, 2015 09:45 PM EDT | By Rolly Gacelo

When "Gotham" season 2 release date comes, fans will be introduced to new set of villains that will terrorize the city and will make Jim Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) life hard.

Although these new characters are compelling in their own rights, there are also old characters who are yet to blossom into the villain they are supposed to be - Oswald Cobblepot and Edward Nygma.

Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) has shown how evil he can be to fulfill his dreams of becoming the king of the underground.

He was able to trump mob bosses in the first season and in "Gotham" season 2, he is now the biggest and scariest. However, that will be threatened heavily by other new players.

On the other hand, Edward Nygma is still with GCPD but after making his first kill last season, he will spiral down into the dark side. What if these two start working together? Prepare for a world of fun.

"Edward Nygma, is for me, is one of my favorite characters in the show. His storyline is absolutely heartbreaking. Edward Nygma is one of the most tragic in the show," Cobblepot said in an interview with USA Today while sitting side by side with Smith.

"When you see what happens and how he changes and evolves, it's really affecting and really moving. i'm just excited to see what happens."

Smith expressed the same admiration for Robin Lord Taylor and the character his co-star plays.

"It's been amazing watching Robin navigate this character, who's been the catalyst for many of the mega-events of the entirety of the first season," Smith said.

"The character's ambition, his cunning, his manipulation, it's so delicious, and Robin doesn't shy away from it at all."

Cory Michael Smith's Edward Nygma will get more exposure when "Gotham" season 2 release date arrives. One of the possibilities ahead is him possibly working with Cobblepot. S

mith said in June interview with Screen Rant that he is excited to work with Taylor and that the scene they worked together in the first season is one of his favorites.

"I mean, we had that one scene together, and it was one of my top three scenes we shot the entire season," he said.

"I want Edward to really make his change and then... I would be down with [a Penguin-Riddler partnership]. I'm sure a lot of people would too."

How great it would be to see the Penguin and the Riddler in one scene? "Gotham" season 2 release date is Sept. 21.
