Royal Brunei Airlines has received its first Boeing 787 airplane, Airlines and Destinations reported Thursday.

The craft is the first for any airline based in Southeast Asia.

"This exciting addition keeps passenger comfort and high-quality service at the heart of our airline and is yet another effort to ensure our fleet remains modern and offers peaceful and tranquil travel," Dermot Mannion, chairman of Royal Brunei Airlines told the website Airlines and Destinations.

According to Airlines and Destinations, Royal Brunei, which is the flagship carrier of the Sultanate of Brunei, made its maiden voyage on Tuesday with a non-stop 6,540-mile flight to Brunei International Airport. The airport services the country's capital of Bandar Seri Begawan.

The Boeing 787's main structure is made up of 50 percent of composite materials. This includes the fuselage or main tube, and wing. Because of this layout, the plane can use 20 percent less fuel and gives off 20 percent less carbon dioxide fumes than aircrafts of similar sizes.

The plane's next journey is scheduled to take place Oct. 18 when it will head to Singapore. Service to London's Heathrow Airport through Dubai is slated to begin in December. According to Airlines and Destinations, more Boeing 787's will be delivered in order to come through on its promise of having the aircraft available for all of its "long-haul" flights by the second fiscal quarter next year.

At this time, the company expects to unveil the plane on flights to Melbourne, Australia, the country's second-largest city.

The company has had an issue with one of its antenna's malfunctioning. The aircraft was on its way to Poland from Toronto, Ontario when it was forced to land in Reykjavik, Iceland this week according to information from the Christian Monitor.
