Did Sean Astin Confirm That ‘The Goonies 2’ Is Happening? Actor Tweeted That He Shall Return

"The Goonies 2" rumors have been buzzing for years, but until today there is still no official announcement.

Just recently, one of the lead stars of the 1985 adventure comedy film hinted that he will return in the sequel.

"#Goonies2 I Shall Return" Sean Astin wrote on Twitter as reported by Slash Film.

However, the actor deleted his tweet maybe because he was still not allowed to spill out the secret.

"Mis-speaking on Twitter? Even when one delete's the Tweet (hate doing that), faux pas live on #GooniesSequel #Magic8BallSaysSomeday," he replaced his tweet.

Sean Astin, who starred as Mikey Walsh in the Richard Donner film, revealed that "The Goonies 2" will be happening but he never confirmed the date and cast.

"I have said and will always say, that it's not a question of if, but rather of when the sequel gets made," he told Tulsa World.

"The precise makeup of it, I have no idea. Whether I will be in it, no idea. Whether they would even want the original cast in it, no idea. But it doesn't matter. It's bigger, it's actually bigger than everybody. It's bigger than even Steven (Spielberg), who created it. It's bigger than Richard Donner, who breathed such strong life into it," the 44-year-old actor added.

Apart from Sean Astin, Chris Columbus who wrote the original film, also confirmed that "The Goonies 2" is happening. However, they need a good script for it and they haven't accomplished that.

"There are a lot of writers who are interested in writing 'Goonies,' but the problem is that we are very protective because it's such a well-loved movie," the 56-year-old filmmaker told HuffPost Live.

Richard Donner, who directed the cult classic film, was the first one to reveal the he is working on "The Goonies 2" with Steven Spielberg.

"Hopefully we're going to get this done, period. Spielberg came up with the idea of doing a sequel after 30 years," he told TMZ. "You don't do it without him, and he came up with another storyline and he's right on."
