Microsoft surface owners has a solution for users who have bricked their tablet devices by using a Windows RT 8.1 update originally full of technical issues All Things D reported Monday.

"Based on our investigations of a situation customers have encountered updating to Windows RT 8.1, we can confirm that as of now this is a Windows update issue only affecting Surface RT customers," Microsoft told All Things D. "While only less than 1 out of every 1,000 (or less than 0.1 percent) Surface RT customers who have installed Windows RT 8.1 have been impacted, improving their experience and ensuring their systems are fully operable as quickly as possible is our number one priority. We have made recovery media available for download here along with actionable guidance for affected customers. We continue to work towards making the Windows RT 8.1 update available in the Windows Store again and apologize for any inconvenience. Further updates will be provided as they become available."

Microsoft removed the update from its Window's store this weekend, and unveiled a new update at the start of the week since users were not able to recover their devices by simply restarting their computer, or restoring it to a previous time when it was working properly.

The company has also presented new software to help users re-build their devices if they cannot re-create their device's image by using the update.

If users continue to experience issues with the latest update, they can continue to follow and see when Microsoft will reveal the latest revised version of the software without any glitches.

According to Info World, several customers reported seeing a blue screen error when using the update Oct. 18.

Microsoft then sent out an advisory stating it was looking into the problem, and working to fix it.

Users also reported a notice popping up on their devices informing them that their computer needed to be fixed, and information was lost, which required the computer to remain configured.
