Samsung Galaxy Note 5 To Get Pink Gold Option To Take On Apple’s iPhone 6s In South Korea?

Samsung announced new color options for the Galaxy Note 5, including the rose gold-like "pink gold." Could it be in anticipation of the impending South Korean launch of Apple's iPhone 6s?

According to CNET, the South Korean tech firm announced the new color options - silver titanium and pink gold - last week.

"Particularly noteworthy is the pink gold variant, which seems to be a direct response to Apple's rose gold iPhone 6s," the website said.

SammyHub reported that the silver titanium option will be available in 32GB and 64GB storage capacities and will retail soon. The pink gold variant on the other hand will only be available in 64GB storage capacity and will retail starting Oct. 23.

According to CNET, that's the same day the iPhone 6s will roll out in Samsung's home market.

But Samsung launching a similar color option after Apple has happened before. Tech Insider recalled that in 2013, a gold Galaxy S4 was announced after Apple launched its first gold iPhone, the iPhone 5s.

The website said the pink gold Galaxy Note 5's hue "looks nearly identical" to the rose gold iPhone 6s.

But last year, a pink Galaxy Note 4 was also launched, as 9to5Google pointed out.

GSMArena also noted that the silver titanium variant was shown off during the Note 5's launch in August.

Earlier this month, Franchise Herald reported that experts estimated the rose gold iPhone 6s accounted for around 30 to 40 percent of pre-orders.

With the announcement, silver titanium and pink gold joins the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 color options along with black sapphire, white pearl and gold platinum, bringing the total to five.

Other Asian countries are set to get the new color options but Samsung said that "release details are still being worked out."

No indication was made about a US release date, however.
