After announcing that she's retiring from "The Vampire Diaries," fans of Nina Dobrev never stopped hoping that she'll one day return.

The successful long-running vampire-themed series has only three episode shown from season 7 and yet rumors of Dobrev returning to the show are becoming rampant.

Apparently, her co-star Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatore, gave hint to Nina Dobrev's return when he explained how important Elena Gilbert is to "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

"Elena's still a very big part of the story," Paul Wesley revealed to TV Insider. "Her body's in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up."

"We all had imagined this complete reboot where Elena was gone, but she's talked about so much!" he added.

In fact, Dobre's ex-boyfriend, Ian Somerhalder had even teased fans of her return during a previous interview with MTV.

"She's still there, dude," Ian Somerhalder told MTV. "She's in a casket; she's having a nap."

"[Characters] die and come back," Paul Wesley quipped.

And while her return to "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 may be possible, Nina Dobrev herself insisted in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that she's done with playing Elena Gilbert.

"That chapter is closed, sadly -- bittersweet," Dobrev explained.

And while her decision seems final, she did express her support to all of her former co-workers.

"I can't wait to see what the new season will look like," she added. "I'll be watching. I'm very excited for my friends."

While supporting "The Vampire Diaries" season 7, Nina Dobrev is also reportedly interested in getting more challenging roles in the future.

"I want to do something dark and gritty," she explained to WhoWhatWear. "I want to work with directors that I admire and that will make me better and actors that will challenge me and scare the s--t out of me."

Following her exit from "The Vampire Diaries," Nina Dobrev, according to Deadline, is reportedly working on a movie called, "Arrivals."

She is also rumored to play the role of Allie in the planned, "The Notebook" TV series adaptation.
