Is CBS TV Series 'Supergirl' Connected To 'Superman II' Movie? Plus More About Cast Laura Benanti

"Supergirl" series cast members are probably in cloud nine right now after their successful season premiere.

Reports from Deadline said the new superhero show starring Melissa Benoist performed well last night with a 3.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 12.94 million viewers.

Deadline also wrote there is a possibility "'Supergirl' will rank as the highest-rated and most-watched freshman series this fall in Live+Same Day."

Critics attributed the great debut on the show's marketing team who relentlessly promoted the show despite the leak of the episode two months ago.

"Supergirl" series premiere saw a lot of familiar faces. There is former Supergirl Helen Slater and former Superman Dean Cain. However, one of those who really raised curiosity of fans is Laura Benanti who plays both Alura Zor-El and Astra.

In upcoming episodes, there is another Kryptonian who will appear in the show. Chris Vance has joined the "Supergirl" series cast as Non who all comic book fans know is one of the many Kryptonians who wanted to kill Superman.

This character is Kryptonian like Astra. Non's presence, as well as Astra, raised questions about the show's connection to other Superman movies, particularly "Superman II" which starred Christopher Reeves in the title role.

The mystery has been answered. Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said the Kryptonian Non in CBS TV series "Supergirl" is some sort of prequel to "Superman II" version.

"The Non in the comic books is not what you saw in Superman II," Kreisberg told Comic Book Resources. "That Non in 'Superman II' had been lobotomized.

When we meet him, he will not have been lobotomized yet so our take on this character is sort of a prequel to the Superman II mythos."

In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kreisberg also talked about the surprise twist in the "Supergirl" season premiere featuring a face very familiar to Kara Danvers.

Turned out, the people who want to come after her is the twin of her mother. Kreisberg said they want to feature a villain that is very familiar to Benoist's character.

"When we were writing the pilot, we thought about that a lot," Kreisberg told THR. "For us, we love when you have the hero and villain being linked, and what you can do to make what's happening between them personal. Nothing is more personal than family, but to then go one step further and have the villain be an exact replica of her mother is going to be really cool."

Aside from Benoist and Lenanti, other members of "Supergirl" series cast are Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh, Jeremy Jordan, David Harewood, and Calista Flockhart.

What do you think about the "Supergirl" season premiere episode? Will you come back for more?
