NBA Trade Rumor: Memphis-Miami In Discussion For Mario Chalmers

Nov 05, 2015 07:23 PM EST | By Rolly Gacelo

Several NBA trade rumors have died down as the 2015-16 season of the league is now on full swing.

However, one discussion between two teams trying to get stronger has surfaced.

ESPN's Marc Stein revealed Memphis Grizzlies and Miami Heat are currently in talks for point guard Mario Chalmers.

"Season's first bit of NBA trade scuttle dribbles in: ESPN sources say Grizzlies have discussed potential deal for Miami's Mario Chalmers," Stein said on his Twitter account.

He added, "No trade imminent yet, I'm told, but sources say that the Grizzlies and Heat have discussed a potential Chalmers-to-Memphis swap."

Slam Online wrote NBA trade between Grizzlies and Heat might involve veteran Beno Udrih. However, Chalmers earn more than Udrih and that might get in the way.

"The Heat can not only slice their luxury-tax bill if they find a favorable deal for Chalmers but also ensure that youngsters Tyler Johnson and Josh Richardson continue to be first in line for spot minutes behind the Heat's backcourt starters," Slam Online wrote.

Chalmers was involved in an NBA trade rumor before along with Chris Anderson but there was no other party that got named.

"After media reports all offseason that the Heat were looking to trade Chris Andersen and Mario Chalmers to cut costs, it is unclear where they fit going forward," Palm Beach Post reported back in September.

"Pat Riley shot down the idea that they were on the trading block a few months ago, and they remain on the roster as the team prepares to start training camp Tuesday."

The seven-year guard is now entering the last year of the two-year contract he signed in 2014. He is aware his future with his first team is on peril.

"It's definitely been tough, but I'm built like that ... for tough moments, to deal with things," he said. "I've always had the odds stacked against me. That's what made me who I am."
