'American Gods' TV Series Release Date, News, & More: Many Versions Of Jesus Are In Says Bryan Fuller

It is unlikely for Neil Gaiman fans to get the "American Gods" TV series release date at this point as the show is yet to name its cast.

Bryan Fuller, who will run the upcoming Starz TV series, shared major details though.

The series based on Neil Gaiman novel of the same name is more about the clash of old gods and modern beliefs. Still, don't be surprised if biblical creatures appear because Fuller said they are incorporating popular 'gods' modern people believe in.

"Oh yeah, we get into Jesus and the big God as well," Fuller, who just finished with his NBC show "Hannibal", told Crave.

"You know, so much of the book is exploring the more marginalized gods who are struggling to make their way in modern America without the strength of the believers that, say, Jesus and Buddha and Easter might have because of their public personas."

Fuller added there are many versions of Jesus that might appear in "American Gods" TV series.

Although "American Gods" TV series release date, plot, cast, and more are still up in the air, Fuller revealed what it will be like. It will be a version of Marvel universe but is centered more on gods that are superheroes in their own rights.

"Well, we don't have the rights to Anansi Boys but we're hoping that we will eventually," he said.

"Mr. Nancy is going to play a major role in the series and potentially what we're looking at with American Gods is developing a Marvel Universe, not with superheroes but with gods. As detailed and integrated as the Marvel Universe is, and doing that with deities is something that excited all of us. "

"So who knows? In success we may have spin-offs of American Gods that follow lesser gods in greater detail than you might in the main series, but there's all sorts of potential for this show that we're very excited about and I hope the audience is as enthusiastic as we are so we can bring those dreams to fruition."

Previously, Neil Gaiman said he wants Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to play Shadow, the main character in the book. Interestingly, Johnson is also set to play as Black Adam in DC superhero movie "Shazam."
