Paris Attack: Ruby Rose Receives Online Criticism For Tweeting About Syria, Lebanon

Nov 18, 2015 01:09 AM EST | By Romeo Vasquez

While many were posting on social media #PrayForParis as a call for prayer and support following the terroristic attack in Paris, "Orange is the New Black" star Ruby Rose encouraged everyone on Twitter to "Pray for the world," highlighting other bomb attacks in Syria and Lebanon.

Ruby Rose is one of the many who strongly condemned the Paris attack. She even helped share, on her social media account, helplines that those affected may use. Her tweet with hashtags #syria and #lebanon, however, were backlashed by fans saying it detracts from the Paris attack.

Ruby Rose's particular post on Twitter (now deleted) which angered many followers reads: "Today has been devastating. #lebanon #paris #syria and everywhere under attack right now. This is not a blanket post this is a post for today's horrific news which spans many countries."

Then she posted a follow-up tweet containing an image with the words, "Pray for the entire world," and captioned: "Let's be honest."

An angry user replied to Ruby Rose's tweet, saying, "This is so stupid this is exactly like the response to #blacklivesmatter"

Another Twitter user replied, ""Of course someone had to do it, we can't go through anything without someone being that moron."

An hour later, Ruby Rose clarified, posting on Twitter: "Wow! Guys my 'pray for the world' post is not taking away from Paris. It's about the other incidents today #paris #syria #lebanon"

She tweeted further: "There were bombings in Lebanon and Paris today. I am saying the world is in trouble. Terrorism at large."

Then she said: "Please stop comparing my prayer for the world today as an 'all lives matter' blanket post. It's about the terrorist attacks today."

Finally she posted: "Love breeds love. Hate breeds hate. My heart and my love goes to Paris and everywhere in state of emergency right now. Heartbreaking day."

A little later, to defend her stand, she quotes President Barack Obama by posting an image on Instagram containing Obama's statement that reads: "President Obama said, 'This is not just an attack on Paris, not just on the people of France, but this is an attack on all of humanity.'"

She captioned the image, saying, "Literally what I said and stand by earlier. Yet receive hate and horrible comments."
