For 'Superbowl Of Boxing': Oscar De La Hoya Drops Hate On Floyd Mayweather Jr For Joint Venture

Nov 20, 2015 10:20 AM EST | By Rolly Gacelo

It is well documented how Oscar De La Hoya dislike Floyd Mayweather, the man who beat him in 2007 in a boxing match that shattered then's pay-per-view record.

The two former foes are now retired but De La Hoya's 'hatred' of the undefeated American fighter seems to be still there. In fact, in the past weeks, he blasted Floyd for being the problem to boxing.

Golden Boy made a major u-turn though. He wants to give his feud with Pretty Boy a permanent rest and see them work together for the betterment of the sport.

"You know what, I'm gonna give it to you. I'm gonna give you an exclusive right now," the 42-year old, 1995 Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year told Radio Rahim.

"Floyd, let's bury the hatchet. I'm shaking, I'm getting a little teary eyed. Floyd, let's bury the hatchet. We don't have to be friends. We don't have to be best friends, but let's bury the hatchet for the sake of the sport. "

A few days ago, Oscar De La Hoya, now the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, blatantly blasted Floyd Mayweather Jr for fighting only for money.

"It's all business for Mayweather. That's all it is," he told Boxing Scene.

"His team...that's the difference between our fight here on November 21st [between Cotto and Canelo]...it's about passion, it's about the fans, it's about doing the best fight possible and that's what the fighters will do inside the ring - is give you a war. It is about the business [for us as well], but it's about the fight first," De La Hoya said.

Now, he is praising him and hope they can work together to start the "Super Bowl of Boxing."

"Keep doing what you're doing, I applaud you. I'm doing what I'm doing. Let's come together. Maybe down the road we can work together. Imagine that. Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions. We'll bring in the Bobfather. Maybe well bring Don King out of retirement. Maybe we'll do a Super Bowl of boxing. Floyd, let's bury the hatchet, sincerely."
