'Into The Badlands' Episode 4 Postmortem: Cast Defends His Character's Decision

"Into the Badlands" episode 4 titled "Two Tigers Subdue Dragons" saw bad-ass actions as usual.

What's unusual in the episode though is the decision made by one character against his family.

Ryder (Oliver Stark), who lead character Sunny (Daniel Wu) saved from an assault, made a game-changing decision to break a deal with the person who his father thought ordered the hit on him - The Widow (Emily Beecham). Is he right to make such call?

"Into the Badlands" cast Stark says the situation his character is currently in made him take that step.

"If you keep on pushing someone, eventually you push them too far," he told The Wrap. "I think Quinn has never given him the approval that he craves. His mother has now turned her back. He's dumped by his lover. I feel like there's nothing left for him in The Fort. And then it simply becomes a case of 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend.'"

Ryder's father Quinn (Marton Csokas) will surely be angry once he learns about his son's dealing. He has been spending his time on the outside, risking his life to kill the Widow.

Aside from Ryder's betrayal, "Into the Badlands" episode 4 also saw M.K. (Arami Knight) learning more about his ability with the help of Sunny.

In a fight at the cemetery though, he almost killed his friend and Widow's daughter Tilda (Madeleine Mantock).

The episode also saw Orla Brady's character Lydia making scary decisions. Brady said her character is just fighting to stay relevant, to feel she is still needed by husband Quinn who also houses his another wife Jade with them.

"I would say, here is a woman who is trying to stay visible," she told Comicbook.com.

"She is fading in the eyes of her husband. She is becoming invisible in the eyes of her husband. He is no longer seeing her. As she has, hitherto, defined herself in terms of him. They've been a we for a long time. She has been an ally to and a strong right hand woman to the Baron. They've very much been a team. He is, now, not nearly enough acknowledging that but he is no longer interested in her, and because of that she is becoming invisible. She is a woman who is understanding that everything she based her life on is maybe not the truth. She's having to redefine herself. Either fade away and go into a corner and accept his terms, or come out fighting somehow. She has a choice. She's at a crossroads. She's a woman at a crossroads."

Other members of "Into the Badlands" cast are Sarah Bolger, Stephen Lang, and Mike Seal.

Show will return on Dec. 13 for episode titled "Snake Creeps Down."
