Ashton Martin Recall: 5,001 Vehicles Pulled Back For Breakage On Gas Pedal Arm Risk

Ashton Martin Lagonda of North America is recalling 5,001 cars because their pedals can snap back and break according to information on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website.

"If the accelerator pedal arm breaks, the engine will return to idle and the driver will be unable to maintain or increase engine speed, increasing the risk of a crash," The NHTSB said in the recall information.

"Although there has been no report of any accidents or injuries involving the throttle pedal, Aston Martin's commitment to customer safety is paramount, which is why the company is taking this action," Aston Martin said in a statement The Los Angeles Times reported.

The recall includes the DB9 and V8 vantage Ashton Martin made from 2008 through 2014. The Ashton Martin DBS Rapide made from 2009 through 2012 is also affected.

This also includes the 2014 Rapide S, 2011 through 2012 V12 Vantage, 2011 through 2014 V8 Vantage S, and 2012 Virage vehicles according to the recall information.

Drivers of the affected vehicles will be notified by Aston Martin will notify owners, and then subsequently have their vehicles' accelerator pedal assemblies changed out the recall information reported. Work is expected to begin soon.

Owners of affected vehicles can call Ashton Martin's customer service at 1-888-923-9988 and use the the RA-03-0017 according to the recall information.

Consumers can also call the the NHTSA's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236. They can also access the administration's website at www.safercar.gov.

"This recall supersedes recall 13V-228. Any vehicle that has been remedied under the previous recall needs to have the current remedy applied," the NHTSB said in the statement.

No injuries related to the recall have been reported according to Ashton Martin The Times reported.

The Ashton Martins mentioned typically cost between $120,000 and over $300,000 The Times reported.
