Feb 19, 2014 07:13 AM EST | By John Nassivera

HTC Corp. announced on Friday, Feb. 14 the update to HTC One with the Android 4.4 KitKat.

The update was announced after U.S. carriers have been experiencing delays with their HTC One updates, following the release of the Android 4.4 update for Sprint HTC One and Verizon HTC One, according to International Business Times.

HTC's product management stated on Reddit the company's desire to come through with the new update despite HTC's issues with updates in the past, according to NDTV.

"We don't have a perfect track record regarding updates along with almost every phone manufacturer," product management said, "but we're dedicated to bring more transparency to the process and doing our best to deliver updates as quickly as we can."

President of HTC North America Jason Mackenzie confirmed the Android update on Twitter, International Business Times reported.

"It's in testing," Makenzie tweeted. "I've asked @htc to update anticipated push date early this week."

Makenzie also tweeted that T-Mobile users "won't wait long for Android 4.42 to hit that model."

HTC made an additional announcement regarding future updates, according to NDTV. HTC stated it will support future flagship devices with major updates for two years after their release.

"Today we are making a commitment to support all new North America flagship devices going forward with all major Android updates for 2 years after their release date," HTC said.

Customers can access the update through the Software Updates section of the phone's About menu, GSMarena reported. New features for the update include Google Drive support, improved encryption, Cloud printing, and better multitasking.

Future updates to phones will follow the Android 4.4 Kitkat operating system, according to International Business Times. Owners of T-Mobile and AT&T HTC One phones are expected to receive advances including the updates to HTC's BlinkFeed, a new Do Not Disturb App and HTC Sense 5.5 UI.
