Rogers, a small town, is facing a significant change as its only grocery store, Save-A-Lot, has permanently closed its doors. Darlene Metts, the store owner, cited insufficient business as the primary reason for the shutdown.

This closure marks a challenging time for the community, which now lacks a local grocery shopping option.

Save-A-Lot Grocery Ends Family Legacy

The Save-A-Lot grocery in Rogers, a family-run business with a long-standing presence in the community, is closing down. Owned by Darlene Metts, the store was handed down through her family, originally coming into her possession from her mother.

Acknowledging the store's inevitable closure, Metts expressed sadness and resignation. 'It's been in the family for 20 to 25 years. Sadly, there's too much competition for us. The economy is bad, and we just can't make it,' she said.

Unsold food from the store's final days will be sent to Metts' sister's Save-A-Lot location in New Castle.

With the closure of Save-A-Lot, Rogers residents now have to travel to Columbiana for their nearest grocery shopping option.

The Save A Lot grocery store in Altoona, situated in the Pleasant Valley Shopping Center on Pleasant Valley Blvd., is set to close its doors permanently this Saturday, Feb. 10. The closure marks the end of the store's service to the local community.

Sarah Griffin, the Director of PR, explained that the lease for the building was not renewed. Consequently, the licensee, who owns and operates the store, faced the tough choice to shut it down.

Despite the closure, Griffin thanked the customers, saying, 'We are grateful to our customers for their loyal support in this location.'

However, there's a silver lining for those reliant on Save A Lot for their grocery needs. The Save A Lot store on W 13th Street in Tyrone will remain open and continue serving customers.

Meanwhile, the FOX 32 website recently reported the closure of Save-A-Lot in Richton Park, which has been operating for 17 years.

Following the closure of the Save-A-Lot in Richton Park, local authorities see a promising opportunity for a new specialty grocery store to take its place.

The recently closed Save-A-Lot was part of Yellow Banana's portfolio, a company known for acquiring multiple grocery stores in the Chicago area. This change presents a chance for the village to diversify its grocery offerings and meet the unique needs of its residents.
