Facebook's founder and CEO, the young Mark Zuckerberg together with his wife, Priscilla Chan, had made a rare red carpet appearance at the 2014 Breakthrough Prize Awards Ceremony which was held at NASA Ames Research Center last Sunday evening, November 9, in Mountain View, California.
The American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur had attended the event hosted by comedian Seth MacFarlane. Zuckerberg and Chan have not been spotted together ever since April of last year when the couple went on vacation, and was seen surfing in Hawaii.
At a party during Zuckerberg's sophomore year, he met Priscilla Chan who was a fellow student. He began dating Chan in 2003. On May 2012, Zuckerberg and Chan had tied the knot in Zuckerberg's backyard in a celebration also marking her graduation from medical school. The couple happily announced the nuptials on Facebook.
30-year-old Zuckerberg and 29-year-old Chan had happily grazed the red carpet. Zuckerberg as well as several other entrepreneurs and scientists had helped found the awards. The award gives out $3 million to the winners, who have helped break ground in their respective fields.
The young entrepreneur is also known for his philanthropy. Zuckerberg previously donated an undisclosed amount to Diaspora, which isan open-source personal web server that implements a distributed social networking service.
Zuckerberg also founded the Start-up: Education foundation. In 2010, it was reported that Zuckerberg had donated $100million to Newark Public Schools.
On 2010, Zuckerberg, along with magnates Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, signed a promise in which they will donate to charity at least half of their wealth over the course of time.
In 2014, Zuckerberg and his wife donated $25 million to help combat the ebola virus.
Since 2010, Time magazine has named Zuckerberg among the 100 wealthiest and most influential people in the world.
