Colin Farrell Fighting For Gay Rights In His Hometown - He Isn't A Bad Boy After All

Nov 20, 2014 11:22 PM EST | By Staff Reporter

We love Colin Farrell. Just because he has the bad boy look in his films doesn't mean he has no emotions. In reality, Farrell is actually fighting for a cause that he believes in. Currently, that cause that he is fighting for, is gay rights. The actor believes in it strongly since one of his family members, his brother, is gay.

Farrell then took time to express his views and urged his fellow Irish people, to vote in favor of gay marriage rights. The actor wrote in Sunday World and recalled how his older brother, Eamon, was bullied for being different while he was growing up. Farrell then calls out the Irish government for not allowing his brother to getting married even until now.

According to the 38-year-old actor, "I think I found out my brother wasn't groveling in heterosexual mud like most boys our age when I was around 12. I remember feeling surprised. Intrigued. Curious. Not bi curious before you start getting ideas."

Colin also explained that though the concept of his brother's sexuality was not familiar to him, he didn't feel that it was innately wrong. He continued, "My brother Eamon didn't choose to be gay." He also added, "He was always proud of who he was. Proud and defiant and, of course, provocative."

He then took a shot at the government and said that his brother had to travel to Canada just to be able to get married. In Canada, it's already legal to have same-sex marriage. Farrel said that to have his brother leave the country just to have his dream of getting married is "insane." The actor continued, "It's about giving our lesbian and gay sisters and brothers back a right that should never have been stolen from them in the first place."

Oh Colin! We love you more!
