Diageo Beer Distributor Acquires Cabin Fever Maple Flavored Whisky

Jun 07, 2012 02:00 PM EDT | By Zanub Saeed

Premiere beer, wine, and spirits distributor Diageo announced on Thursday that it had acquired the Cabin Fever Maple Flavored Whisky company as part of a means to sell more flavored whisky in the United States.

With the rise of sales in flavored whisky, said a press release issued by Diageo on Thursday, the company wanted to further grow its enterprise, as well as sell artisanal spirits. Cabin Fever Maple Flavored Whisky was originally found by the Robillard family, who will still have some control over the brand after the acquisition, despite it having been found as a family business. The whisky brand itself has been sold to consumers and bartenders throughout the northeastern U.S. due to having a loyal fan base for the drink in that area.

"The Robillard family has created a unique American whisky and we look forward to continuing the growth of this unique brand," Steve Rust, President Diageo Catalyst Division, was quoted as stating for the press release. "Cabin Fever delivers on the consumer demand for flavored, artisanal brands that are driving whisky growth in the US. We are confident in the brand and our continued relationship with the Robillard family."

Cabin Fever Maple Flavored Whisky can be purchased at stores across the country for a suggested retail price of $19.99 for a 750ml bottle, and is 80 proof whisky, said the press release. Diageo will begin selling the Cabin Fever Maple Flavored Whisky in fall 2012, as part of a national promotional campaign.

Other brands owned by Diageo include Johnnie Walker, Crown Royal, Windsor, Smirnoff, Baileys, Jose Cuervo, Guinness, and Captain Morgan, said the press release.

"Building Cabin Fever has been a labor of love for our family," Rob Robillard, Founder of Cabin Fever Maple Flavored Whisky, said for the press release. "We have had enormous support from the community and look forward to working with Diageo to bring our unique brand to the rest of the country. In addition to the impressive Diageo marketing organization that Cabin Fever will be joining, it's great to be associated with a company that is clearly committed to responsible drinking."
