Tony Award Winning "Spring Awakening" is now set for a movie adaptation! News have surfaced online, including "Glee" starts Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff to reprise their roles. Will Broadway-turned-Hollywood actors Sylar Astin of "Pitch Perfect 2" and John Gallagher Jr. of "The Newsroom" from the original Broadway cast join in?
After creator Dunkan Sheik announces that indeed "Spring Awakening" movie adaptation is in the works, news on casting has surfaced online including rising superstars of "Glee" Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff, "The Newsroom" John Gallagher Jr., and "Pitch Perfect 2" Skylar Astin. What do they all have in common? They're all from the original cast of the coming-of-age, Tony Award Winning musical "Spring Awakening".
While the vocal powers of Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff have been shared to the world through the musical television series "Glee", "Pitch Perfect 2" Skylar Astin and "The Newsroom" John Gallagher Jr. news have only been surfacing recently, at least outside the Broadway musical world.
Skylar Astin has appeared in numerous films prior to "Pitch Perfect" in 2012 and of course, as one of the original cast members of "Spring Awakening" as Georg. He showcases his musical abilities on the big screen as he portrays Jesse Swanson in "Pitch Perfect", and reprising this role in the upcoming "Pitch Perfect 2".
John Gallagher Jr.'s popularity on the other hand is among the broadway fans as he has starred alongside "Glee's" Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff as one of the original cast members and lead of Dunkan Sheik's "Spring Awakening" as Moritz Stiefel, together with "Pitch Perfect 2" actor Skylar Astin. John Gallagher Jr. also lead Green Day's broadway musical, "American Idiot" as Johnny. Apart from broadway, John Gallagher Jr. has appeared in the HBO drama series "The Newsroom" and the 2010 film "Jonah Hex".
After cast news involving "Glee" Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff as well as "Pitch Perfect 2" Skylar Astin and "The Newsroom" John Gallagher Jr., creator Dunkan Sheik shares to The Hollywood Reporter: ""What's really important to me is that we make a great movie," he confides. "I would rather have it be incredibly awesome than to have it be a big commercial hit and it's not very good."
