Everything has been quiet on the "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" front lately. Nothing much followed after the release of the first-look trailer - a few updates here and there including J.J. Abrams revealing certain character's names.

What do we know so far from what we've seen? Here's a rundown of characters seen in the trailer and their rumored backgrounds.

  • The Storm Trooper without a helmet is called Finn (played by John Boyega).
  • Daisy Ridley plays the lady on the speeder, her name is Rey. She is a salvager on Luke Skywalker's homeland "Tatooine", said to be Han and Leia's daughter.
  • Oscar Isaac plays an alliance fighter named Poe Dameron.
  • The darkside character wielding the unconventional cross-guarded lightsaber is Kylo Ren (believed to be played by actor Adam Driver).
  • "Game of Thrones" actress Gwendoline Christie is widely believed to be an Empire commander who's in pursuit of Finn for defecting.

Apart from these new characters, Han, Chewbacca, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker are all returning to their respective roles.

Website makingstarwars.net has elaborated on the characters and may reveal a few plot details.

[Possible spoilers ahead!]

"The implication is that basically Rey and Luke go into hiding at exactly the same time for the same reason. She is the daughter of Han and Leia and she's tasked with protecting a lightsaber that can open a proverbial Pandora's Box of evil. Artifacts being sought after by Kylo Ren are collected because they're trying to figure out which artifact will open the tomb," the site claims.

"Luke Skywalker is guarding the tomb and being tormented by evil spirits that appears half crazed from the duty he's been on," adding that he is "hiding during much of The Force Awakens. He has put himself in a self imposed exile and is protecting an ancient Sith tomb from being opened by the main bad guy, Kylo Ren."

"Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" arrives in theaters on Dec. 18.
