In terms of disturbing scenes, FX TV series "The Americans" has definitely upped the ante this year compared to the previous seasons. One of those hard-to-look-at scenes this season is when KGB couple Philip and Elizabeth Jennings (Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell) broke the bones of a dead girl one by one so they can stuff her in a bag and hide the corpse. In the most "The Americans" season 3 episode, the show somehow mellowed it down but still, it produced one of the most unique and distressing scenes on TV.

Philip had to perform a dental operation on Elizabeth after getting injured. All they had with them are pliers and some home tools. This scene is somewhat out of this world and gory. For Keri Russell this is just one of many things that directors do to level up the physicality in the show. While fans were shocked by that scene, Keri Russell says it was one of the most fun moment in the set.

"Oh my Godddd. Yes. Yes. Yes. Vomit central. Tommy Schlamme directed that. It's written as this scene as someone pulling someone's tooth, which is pretty gnarly and intense," Russell said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

"But then it becomes this whole other scene that was fun to do. The precursor to that scene is harrowing and it's one of the closest moments to Elizabeth being caught and it's incredibly draining and emotional. And you come home and it's such a relief to be home and with this person that you love."

In the first three "The Americans" season 3 episode, there is no sex scenes yet involving Philip and Elizabeth. Well, there is already one in the last episode. However, it was disguised as dental operation. According to Russell, the director told them that the teeth pulling scene is the most intimate part of the episode.

"Then we go down to the basement and Tommy was like, "This is basically my sex scene in this episode. It should be that intimate. I'm going to trust you to do this." And it became that. It was so damn fun. That's what I love about this show. It's always about something else. But I can understand how you may have lost your dinner, or patted your teeth to make everything was OK."

"The Americans" season 3 will resume next week for the episode titled "Dimebag."
