'The X-Files' Revival News: Script Had Lead Star David Duchovny Cry Right From The First Page

"The X-Files" revival probably had its fans crying tears of joy. The Fox horror/sci-fi drama was ordered another series by the network last March, much to the delight of the fans that followed its nine season run from 1993 to 2002.

It is not just followers who cried because of such good news, even its lead cast.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, David Duchovny, who will reprise his role as Fox Mulder, said reading the script for "The X-Files" revival had him shed tears.

"I got the first script this morning. I just read it about an hour ago and I started crying reading the first page. It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself... That was nice and strangely emotional for me, and I'll have to figure out how to use that [in the performance]."

"The X-Files" revival, which also has Gillian Anderson on board, is tagged as a mini-series with only six episodes. However, for Duchovny, he does not think it returned to end the story. For him, the show's resurrection is not about concluding it.

"I would be open to doing another cycle," Duchovny said. "I don't know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don't know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn't bring it back with the idea of ending it."

Aside from Duchovny and Anderson, also returning to continue their roles are Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as The Smoking Man. As for Robert Patrick, known for his role as John Doggett, he said he did not join the show to be able to play different roles.

"I wanna do as many different roles that I can, and not just one thing," Patrick said in an interview with XFN. "So the same I feel about with John Doggett and the X-Files. I'm doing a new show right now called Scorpion, that I love. And I'd much rather be doing that show than going backwards and revisiting a character that I've already done."
