'The Last Of Us 2' Confirmed! New Characters To Be Introduced Come Its Release Date

Sep 23, 2015 10:57 PM EDT | By Sherylyn Toda

After voice actor Nolan North confirmed that "The Last of Us 2" is definitely happening, there are now reports that even Naughty Dog writers are saying the same.

"I know they're doing a 'Last of Us 2' but my character in Last of Us kind of had an untimely demise," North said according to Game Rant

Apparently, community strategist Eric Monacelli, writer Josh Scherr and lead animator Eric Baldwin talked to IGN  to discuss the Nathan Drake collection when Scherr accidentally confirmed "The Last of Us 2," without revealing its release date.

"All the facial animation in the 'Uncharted' series was led up by Eric, here," Scherr explained of Eric's work on Nathan Drake. "And [on] the first 'The Last of Us.' Uh, did I say the first The Last of Us?"

However, Troy Baker, who voiced Joel in the game, claimed that he has no knowldege about "The Last of Us 2," more so its release date.

"I know nothing," Baker explained during Indy PopCon panel. "I don't know if we're gonna do another one or not. If we do, then I trust Neil [Druckmann, creative director] and Bruce [Straley, game director] and everyone at Naughty Dog to tell a story that needs to be told."

Eurogamer, on the other hand, is positive that the sequel to the post-apocalyptic game is definitely happening and the release date could come as surprise to gamers.

And while Naughty Dog has yet to confirm "The Last of Us 2," there are already suggestions as to how the game's sequel could materialize.

As per Cinema Blend creators of "The Last of Us" would most likely introduce new lead characters following the story of Joel and Ellie.

"It's possible he won't want to compromise that ending with a sequel," the publication reported. "The development team at Naughty Dog might opt for a new story with never-before-seen characters instead."

Troy Baker, who keeps on insisting that he has zero knowledge of the sequel however, has hinted the possibility of having another protagonist in "The Last of Us 2" come its release date.

"You know, spoiler, when you go from the prologue and then credits and then cut to 20 years later, you see a completely different guy," Baker said according to Eurogamer.

While admitting to Game Spot that the sequel is still "on ice," director Bruce Straley has however revealed that there are concrete plans for "The Last of Us 2" already.

"We're 110 percent in Uncharted 4 territory now," Straley said. "Blinders on, make this awesome."

"We totally get it, because we have those same feelings as well. We have brainstormed sequel ideas for 'The Last of Us,' and we've brainstormed ideas for new games, but all of that is put on ice right now while we work on 'Uncharted 4.'"
